Monthly Faves – Monthly Playlist, Harry Styles, Netflix Weather and More

Tomorrow is October 1st. I know, I can’t believe it either. Where has the year gone?

It’s usually around this time of the year that my wish to live in America presents itself more strongly than the rest of the year. I mean, it’s autumn. Halloween is just a month away. Then it’s Thanksgiving, which I have always loved to be a part of. Then it’s Christmas (only 86 sleeps to go!), which involves snow in many places – something I have yet to experience in general, let alone at Christmas time! One day….I will go and it will be fantastic.

Today has been a very wintery day, although it’s officially spring. It’s been raining and windy for the past 3 days, with forecasts predicting it will be continuing over our long weekend. Perfect Netflix weather, I say. Especially with a new month tomorrow meaning new Netflix additions!

In the spirit of the approaching Halloween season, I’ve been watching Scream Queens season 1 which is hilarious and not really that scary at all. It’s created by Ryan Murphy who created Glee, so if you liked the edgy humor from Glee, you should enjoy Scream Queens! I love the costumes which the Chanels wear as well as the 80s soundtrack. Also, Emma Roberts deserves awards for playing Chanel Oberlin – she is so good!

Also on my current watchlist as been The Vampire Diaries (Stelena 4eva), UnReal TV and Full House (I know it’s cheesy, but we all need a bit of cheese, don’t you think?). Not to mention numerous Netflix documentaries about space and the universe.

So, we all know Harry Styles is gorgeous, but have you seen his photoshoots for Another Man magazine which came out this week? The man is giving Kendall and Gigi a run for their money.

So many more pics out there, but you get the idea: he is a model.

Then, last night I randomly woke up at 1am to see other One Direction alumni Niall Horan just released his first solo single called This Town which is absolutely beautiful, simple yet incredibly touching…

I really wish all of the 1D boys all the best with whatever they choose to do during their hiatus, I just adore all of them so much!

Speaking of music, here’s this month’s playlist:

Shawn Mendes released his new album Illuminate last week and it’s very John Mayer/Ed Sheeran-y. But with a Mendes twist. I think Shawn is one of the best young artists out there at the moment and if Illuminate is what we get for a second album, I can’t wait to see how great he’s going to be in years to come!

Another fave of mine for this month has been cross-stitching. Yes, I am a 70 year old woman trapped inside the body of a twentysomething year old woman! I’m working on a cross-stitch design for my Nonna, which I hope to frame and give to her either on her birthday or for a Christmas gift (depending on how quickly I get it done!). I love how relaxing crafting can be after a stressful day at work.

On my food faves list has to be burrito bowls. We had a new health food store open in our town this month and they make the BEST burrito bowls. Just…to die for.

I’m in love!

I’d love to know what have been your favourite things this month!

Let me know in the comments area below.

Until next time,

10 Weekend Getaway Travel Essentials

Weekend Getaway Essentials

Firstly, I want to begin this post by saying that I had it all typed up and ready to be published, but I then pressed an unknown button and the whole thing disappeared without saving. Needless to say, it’s been a stressful morning. So, I am hoping version number 2 will read just as good as what I had planned initially!

What I wanted to tell you was that I am going away with friends this weekend for a bachelorette party and as I started to write my list of what to pack (something I’ve done since I was a kid), I thought I would make a post on my essential items.

So, without anymore ado, here are 10 packing essentials for your next weekend away:

An important lesson I have learned over the years is that if you think you may need a certain medication, you should take it with you. Just because you’re only going somewhere for the weekend, doesn’t mean you won’t need the medications you usually take. Skipping your usual medications won’t do your body any good in the long run. Pack what you need in a zip-lock bag, along with your band-aids (see below) so that they are all together in one spot. In the same vein as medications, I usually some multivitamins or Berocca to give me energy for the weekend.

Spare Underwear

I don’t think I need to go into too much detail with this one. But, as women, accidents can occur and spare underwear is always good to have packed just incase. Also, if in the event you and your friends are feeling extra adventurous and decide to stay another night, you’ve got an extra pair of undies at your disposal! Better than washing an old pair in a bathroom sink (although, that works too!).

You will regret not packing them when you get back to your hotel after a night out wearing those new heels you bought. No band-aids usually means blisters. Also, it’s just really safe to have some on hand incase you or a friend gets a cut or scrape.

Ear Plugs

If you ever went to a sleepover as a teen and lied awake in your sleeping bag all night because of the unfamiliar noises surrounding you, earplugs are the way to go. They’re cheap and you can buy them in different thicknesses, depending on the level of silence you’re comfortable with at night. Sharing a room with a friend, or being away from the usual comforts of home makes it hard to sleep sometimes, it’s best if you drown things out so you can have a good night’s sleep.

Load up your iPod with all your favourite tunes and connect it to the car as your journey starts. The amount of roadtrips I’ve been on where the first half hour was spent finding a radio station to listen to, or trying to connect someone’s phone to listen to music through the car is one too many. Create a playlist the night before with some classics (90s pop is a fave amongst my friends!) so you’re ready to press play as soon as the engine starts.

Because we all have that one friend who always forgets to bring a jacket or cardigan on holidays…okay, I am that friend. But I have learned my lesson! No matter how hot the weather forecast says it will be, there are no guarantees!

Hair Ties/Clips

I have come to the conclusion that hair ties and hair clips are magical because they constantly seem to disappear into thin air. No matter where I go, I always pack a spare hair tie and some clips in the zipper of my handbag or in my clutch for a night out. You just never know how windy it’s going to get, or how sweaty your face will be after a big night out.

Eye Cream

You may have only slept 2 hours last night, but that doesn’t mean you can’t trick your under-eyes into thinking it was actually 8. Gel eye creams work wonders for tired eyes, and help brighten dark circles.

Because it’s winter here in Australia, socks is one of the first items that goes on my list. For the evenings back at your hotel, watching movies with your mates, socks keep your tootsies warm and protect them from getting dirty on hotel floors. They’re also great to pop on if you’re feeling cold!

Perhaps this isn’t as important now that most phones can take high-quality snaps, but it’s still fun to experiment with digital cameras or even polaroid cameras (they’re back in a big way, incase you missed it) and capture moments to last a lifetime. Something fun you could do is print your photos and give copies to your friends at Christmas time as a thoughtful, memory-filled gift.

Take lots of photos, stay safe and enjoy every minute of your trip. The older we get, the less we usually get to travel with friends, so make the most of it!

I would love to know what your essential travel items are! Comment below!

DIY – mini easter ‘hampers’

This past weekend I was feeling creative so I put together some materials and made mini Easter ‘hampers’ for my work collegues. I use the word ‘hampers’ loosely, but with the use of the cellophane to tie all the contents together I really did think the finished product looked a bit like a tiny hamper!

Here is how I created the mini hampers (with horrible photographs by yours truly, I am sorry!).

Firstly, the majority of my craft items were bought from Spotlight except for the gelato cups which are from eBay and the chocolates which I bought from Woolworths.

You will need:

  • Gelato cups – alternating colours
  • 1 x pack of shredded green cardboard
  • 1x pack of mini Easter chickens
  • Clear cellophane
  • 1x sheet of ‘Happy Easter’ silver stickers
  • 2x rolls of Easter-themed ribbon OR ribbon which matches/complements the colours of your gelato cups
  • Chocolates of your choice

To create an Easter ‘Hamper’:

  • Taking 1 gelato cup, place a ‘Happy Easter’ sticker on the front of each. You may want to use other stickers for decoration as well – this is up to you and your creative mind!

  • Decide which chocolates you would like to put inside your hamper. Lay out your gelato cups individually and place your items in each so you have a rough idea of how things will fit without the green shredded paper taking up more room.
  • Each gelato cup will need about a handful of shredded green paper fitted into the cup to fill it. It all depends on how many chocolates you are giving – less chocolates, more shredded paper.
  • Place your chocolates into your gelato cups while rearranging the shredded paper to help certain chocolates sit higher than others.
  • Add a tiny toy chicken into the centre of your creation (this is something I decided to do for decoration, it is up to you what you do/do not add!)

  • Take a sheet of clear cellophane and trim to fit gelato cup/contents. You want enough cellophane to bunch up and over your contents with some to spare for a ribbon
  • Place your gelato cup into the middle of your cellophane and bunch the cellophane around and over the contents.
  • Secure cellophane with a ribbon and let the top of the cellophane stick up wildly to add some character to your design. You can tie your ribbon into a bow or curl it using scissors if you like
  • That’s it!

Other things you may like to do when designing your own mini Easter hamper are adding a name tag to the ribbon or perhaps use the gelato cups to hold some other Easter treats such as painted eggs or even nail polish!

Please let me know if you end up creating something similar – I would love to see your designs!

Not long before the Easter Bunny arrives!

Kebab Thursday

Thursdays at my work have recently received the nickname Kebab Thursdays due to all staff placing orders at our local kebab shop for lunch every week since Christmas.

Today was my turn to walk to the kebab store and pick up our orders. As I walked into the store, I instantly realized two things: how incredibly HOT it was in there (it is 38 degrees today, but walking inside the store, which had no air conditioning and hot food preparation happening, it felt like a sauna!) and how pretty the decor inside the store’s restaurant looked.

I’m obsessed with pinks, purples and reds together as well as the checkered floor and beautiful flowers which gave the room such a different feeling to other restaurants I have recently been to. I also love the metallic silver tissue box covers!

Oh, and lunch was delicious!

5 Things I’m Excited For

PicMonkey Collage

  1. Fuller House premiers on Netflix at 7pm tonight in Australia! So excited to see those endearingly cheesy Tanners.
  2. The 1975’s new album is released today – I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It is full of spacey, floaty pop tunes that will get you bopping and also crying a few times!
  3. Sushi – a California roll never looks so good for dinner after a long Friday at work!
  4. A glass of wine – I am not a huge drinker, but I do enjoy a glass or two of my favourite wine on Friday evenings – Brown Brothers’ tasty Moscato & Sauvignon Blanc mix is my drink of choice!
  5. FRIDAY! – Weekends usually consist of cleaning and catching up on my favourite Netflix series, but nonetheless, Fridays are my favourite day. Cheers to the weekend!
